If you are considering integrating some Easygenerator content in your Teach on Mars app, here are a few key things to know and to do.
CONTENT DESIGN
MULTI-LANGUAGE CONTENT
In Teach on Mars activities, one web content is the same for every language in the training course. Which means, one content must carry all translations and must either detect the learner's language or provide a way to choose a language.
Easygenerator does not support multi-language content. But it provides a way to translate one content into another language through XLIFF files that you can have translated. The whole process is detailed in the tab Configure > Language > Course translations.
- Open Configure tab
- Open the Language section
- Open the Course translation tab
- Download the XLIFF file and have it translated
- Import the translated XLIFF file
A copy of the course will be created with the new translation.
Work around
If you wish to have your Easygenerator content translated in your Teach on Mars app, there is a way around it. You can create a package containing multiple contents (one for each language) and automatically display the right translation when the learner launches the content.
It is a bit technical, but the whole process is detailed in our Github project: Multilingual web content in Teach on Mars.
With this technique, you will have to be extra careful with the weight of your content (see next section).
CONTENT WEIGHT
In the Teach on Mars application, training courses are downloaded on the device so that learners can launch them offline. On mobile devices, the internet connection can be unstable and we don't want our users to have a hard time downloading content.
Therefore the weight of training courses (which includes any web activity inside the training course) must not exceed 200 Mo. So, be careful with media assets Thankfully, videos in Easygenerator are always streamed which means lighter content to download, but videos will only work when the user's device is connected to the internet.
THEME CUSTOMIZATION
Easygenerator allows you to customize the rendering of the content with:
- The color palette
- The text font
- Your company logo
To do so, just go to the Design tab.
You can either use one of the pre-designed themes, or create your own theme by changing settings in the Branding (for logo, background and interface colors) and Fonts sections.
Easygenerator also provides a service (included in the Team plan) where they create one or multiple themes according to your brand's guidelines.
A Teach on Mars theme will also be available so that any content you create using Easygenerator is integrated smoothly in your Teach on Mars app. Of course you will still be able to customize it with your colors and logo.
CONTENT SCORM EXPORT
First, an important mention, the Easygenerator native reporting is not compatible with Teach on Mars SCORM engine in mobile applications. To prevent any issue with this incompatibility, you need to make sure the Results Tracking option is disabled.
Then, to export your Easygenerator content to a SCORM package, let's go to the PUBLISH tab and select To your LMS on the left hand side menu.
Then click on Download as SCORM and select SCORM 2004.
In the Settings section, you may activate the option Include images and fonts into the package before downloading the SCORM package. This will include the images and font in the SCORM package. In other words the custom font and images will work even if the user is not connected to the internet.
But please be aware that videos will never be included in the SCORM package and will always require an internet connection.
Now you can import your Easygenerator content in the Mission Center as described in the article: How to integrate a web activity?
REPORTING
What kind of reporting can you expect from an Easygenerator content?
In the report by activity, you will be able to see the following data:
- Time spent: The time spent by the learner inside the content
- Launches: the number of times the content was launched by the learner
- Progress: stays at 0 until the learner reaches the end of the content, then goes up to 100
- Score: The score is updated every time a question is answered.
- Success: Empty until the learner reaches the end of the content. Then it reflect the success of the learner across all questions.
A few options are available in the configure tab that will allow you to change the behavior of the content regarding, among other things:
- A limitation of attempts
- The mastery score which will define when the course is considered passed
