Until version 3.12.21 , certificates for training courses were configured and added to the Mission Center by our production departments.
From version 3.12.21 onwards, certificate templates can be imported and managed directly by the Mission Center's main administrator, from a PowerPoint file.
Authors can then choose one of the existing certificate templates to attribute to the successful completion of one or more training modules.
1. Manage the list of certificate templates
Note: certificate template management is only available to the super admin - the main administrator of a Mission Center.
1.1. Display list of certificate templates
In the left-hand menu, you'll find a "Certificates" button: this is where you'll find all the certificate templates imported into your Mission Center.
This page contains :
- certificates imported before version 3.12.21 - with a "LEGACY" tag
- certificate templates imported since version 3.12.21
Each column can be sorted - either alphabetically or chronologically.
Each certificate template has an associated status. This status refers to the number of published training courses in which this certificate template is used. Move your mouse over "Used in X training courses" to see the list of training courses in question.
1.2. Edit, preview, update, delete certificate templates
For each certificate template, several actions are available:
- you can delete a certificate template - by clicking on the recycle bin icon.
- Please note that it is not possible to delete a certificate template that is used in at least one published training course.
- you can edit the name of the certificate template - by clicking on the pencil icon.
- Remember to save any changes you make.
- you can preview the certificate template - by clicking on the eye icon.
- The preview includes fictitious and generic data, based on the variables you have entered. See "Importing a certificate template".
- you cannot change the visual of a PPT certificate that has already been created. To update a PPT certificate, create a new certificate from the "certificates" section, go to the relevant course, edit it and then change the linked certification.
-
The old certificate will no longer be linked to this course, but will still be available in the "certificates" section.
-
2. Import a certificate template
You can import a new certificate template in .pptx format - from a Teach on Mars template downloadable from the Mission Center, or from your own customized template.
Clicking on "Import" in the top menu takes you to a page with two sections:
- the first section allows you to download the Teach on Mars certification template in .pptx format (which you can then customize using PowerPoint or LibreOffice) and import your own file to add to your list of certificate templates
- the second section contains a glossary of all the variables you'll need to use to customize your learners' certificates. These variables will be automatically replaced by the learner's information when the certificate is sent.
2.1. Download and customise the Teach on Mars certificate template
To download the suggested template, click on the download link, then open the document in PowerPoint or in LibreOffice.
- Enable editing to customize the file
- Choose the template that suits you best from the 3 slides and delete the other two.
- Adapt the color of the lines, add your logo and replace the image so that the certificate template is adapted to your graphic universe.
- Modify, delete or add available variables to customize the certificate for your learners - these variables will be replaced by your learners' or certification course information.
- Variables are listed in the variable glossary, directly in the Mission Center.
- Remove the red markings, which are only there to guide you!
In short, this template provides a basis from which you can create your own certificate.
Once you've completed your template, save it and import it into the Mission Center.
2.2. Import your own certificate template
You can browse your computer or drag-and-drop to import your own certificate template.
Note: only files in .pptx format can be imported as certificate templates.
Once the file has been selected :
- click on "Generate template" to preview it with generic dummy data replacing the variables you specify in the document.
- add a title to the certificate
- save to add the template to your list of certificate templates
- cancel if this template doesn't suit you
Once added, you return to the list of certificate templates. You and your authors can now assign this certificate to a training course.
FAQ
How do I insert variables into my PowerPoint document?
You can use the Mission Center glossary on the certificate template import page to copy and paste the variables you're interested in.
To make the opening and closing braces:
- on PC : ALTGR+4 and ALTGR++=}
- on Mac : option⌥+( and option⌥+)
Note: all variables must be written in lower case (with the exception of custom field variables).
Note: variables corresponding to custom fields must contain the code of the custom field, case-sensitive. The preview will show the name of the custom field.
What does the data correspond to when previewing a certificate template in the Mission Center?
To help you visualize the final rendering of the certificate that will be sent to your learners, generic dummy data replaces the variables in the preview.
{d.training_title} | Introduction to Artificial Intelligence |
{d.email} | lily.erickson@corporation.com |
{d.login} | Lily123 |
{d.last_name} | Erickson |
{d.first_name} | Lily |
{d.firstname_lastname} | Lily Erickson |
{d.lastname_firstname} | Erickson Lily |

This variable for custom fields in your Mission Center is replaced by the name of the specified custom field. For example, if you have chosen to specify {d.metadata.metacompany}, this variable will be replaced by the name "Company". |
What fonts can I use to customize my certificate template?
By default, all Google fonts and a list of Microsoft fonts are compatible. In total, more than 7500 fonts are currently compatible.
If you'd like to use your own custom font, please contact your CSM.
Is there a file size limit?
Your certificate template file cannot exceed 20 MB.
Is there a limit to the number of certificates I can add to the Mission Center?
There is no limit to the number of certificates that can be imported into the Mission Center. However, it is good practice to only keep certificates that are used in training courses and to delete those that are obsolete.
Is it possible to define access rules for certificates?
Once the super admin has imported the certificates into the Mission Center, they can be used and integrated by all managers with a content creation role. There is no segregation of access to the various Mission Center certificates. However, the super admin is the only manager who can add certificates to the Mission Center as well as modify or delete them.
Is it possible to have one certificate per course language?
Only one template of certificate can be added to the training course. It is not possible to choose one certificate per language.
Can I personalise the email sent to learners with the certification?
It is possible to personalise the email sent to learners. However, this email will be the same for each certification sent, so it is not possible to create a different email for each course. The text of the email can be translated into several languages (provided that you supply the translations). To do this, please contact your CSM.
